What is piano bar? Paul Simmons speaks:-
Although it never ever happens it is possible to play the same set five nights in a row.
Inevitably each night would be different. Why?
The essential ingredient and catalyst is the role of the audience.
They are my guide and a part of the participatory process.
I am at the audiences bidding and I go in all directions whether it is 1930's jazz and popular song,
Britpop, 1970's singer songwriters, Reggae, Country or Blues.
I'm armed with up to 1000 songs from the past 100 years and music from the last 500 years.
I'm licensed to use them in built up areas between the hours of 9 p.m and sunrise.
From the Victor Borge/ Bill Bailey/ Les Dawson school of music I'll add stand up, Improvisation at the piano
and when you add the audiences requests, that creates the ever evolving atmosphere of the evening.
As Billy Joel once said to me " It's reverse Karaoke".
You could be dancing in the aisles or just sitting exploring great songs from great songwriters.
All there is, is one man, one piano and your suggestions.
Songs you know and I'll throw in a few of mine. Be there and influence the outcome.
